From historical statues and monuments to contemporary artworks, and highlighting the City's own collection, these tours illustrate why Chicago is considered "an open-air museum." Follow a Chicago Public Art Program staff member to South, West or Near North neighborhoods to discuss the role that public art plays there, and visit a broad range of artworks representing distinct eras and artistic genres.

Focusing on artwork, primarily created before 1980, this tour examines Chicago’s rich legacy of public art and its patronage. This civic impulse to beautify the urban environment has been a Chicago hallmark since the city's founding. Observe various historic artworks citywide and discuss their historical and contemporary contexts.
